Signs that you are drinking too much water.

APPWJS9JBXI don't drink 8 oz of water with lemon first thing in the morning, nor do I drink a glass of water before each meal or have my klean kanteen super glued to my hand at all times (unless it's filled with bone broth). Shocking, I know. It's like I don't even care about my poor liver! Except, I do. A lot. More than most people, which is why I eat organic whole foods, make sure to use chemical free cleaning/ body products, and rarely drink alcohol.I used to drink tons of water! I'm not sure exactly when it dawned on me that I was possibly drinking too much, but I think it had to do with the fact that every night, this summer around 3 am I was having to water the grass outside of our van under the stars. Yes, it was glamorous, but also inconvenient.  I had always attributed my, ahem, run to the bathroom every 45 minutes, protocol to be indicative of my undersized bladder, but the thought of myself drinking too much water had never crossed my mind. Because you can never drink too much water! Finally I decided to listen to my body, so I cut back on the liquids and learned a lesson that I have learned about 90 times in the past 6 years. When it comes to nourishing ourselves, our bodies are smarter than our brains, fitness magazines, the FDA and Dr. Oz combined. You would have to live under a rock to not be familiar with the idea that drinking more water = less problems. But I'm here to tell you, that there is a darn good chance you are drinking too much liquid and it is causing the problems.Do you:1 Have cold hands or feet?2 Have a basal temperature under 98 F/ 37 C?3 Urinate more than every 3-4 hours?4 Have clear urine?5 Crave salt?6 Avoid salt?7 Avoid saturated fat?8 Avoid animal products?9 Do some macronutrient depleted diet (low-carb)?10 Have fatigue/ adrenal issues?11 Have thyroid issues? (who doesn't?)12 Have a hormonal imbalance?13 Food sensitivities?14 Infertility?15 M.I.A menstrual cycle?16 Try to alkalize/ be more yang/ be more earth ? Yes I am poking fun, but I feel I have the right to as I used to be a raw vegan, kale salad eating, mega green smoothie drinking lunatic. You are most likely drinking yourself to poor health.I just read a few fascinating Matt Stone books (Eat for Heat & Diet Recovery II) on Kindle today that were eye-opening. He has studied the metabolic process for years and has some amazing ideas in feeding your body to increase the metabolic rate. My research only had to do with the fact that I was tired of peeing in the middle of the night and surprisingly, consuming less liquid helped! I'm totally a genius. Maybe I'll do a guest post for his blog one day on my miraculous healing.I sound like I'm joking but this has definitely been one of the more compelling and agreeable health books I have read. The best part about the book is that you will notice an immediate difference, by significantly lowering your intake of liquids while increasing salt, starches, sugar and saturated fat.Although I quite enjoyed his ramblings on the health industry and all of its horribly damaging advice  (veganism, low-fat, low-carb nonsense), I do have to healthily his principals to clear my conscience. My version of this principals of eating for higher metabolic rate are:1. Drink when you are thirsty. Not when you're hungry, tired (coffee) or trying to cleanse your liver.2. Consume high quality salt without worry. Celtic sea & himalayan salt would be my top choices as they contain all the trace minerals and are not manufactured from synthetic compounds.3. Eat Carbs. Eating a diet low in carbs, may work for a while as your body runs off cortisol, but eventually will lead to a seriously suppressed metabolism. Some excellent options are sprouted sourdough bread (yes grains), potatoes, winter squash, bananas, plantains.4. Don't fear unrefined sugar. I won't advocate processed, white sugar. That being said, I  don't see anything wrong with raw honey, sucanat, grade B maple sugar, or coconut nectar. These can be quite helpful in increasing body temperatures. Just make sure to eat them with some blood sugar balancing protein and fat. Who doesn't love goat cheese on sourdough bread drizzled with honey?5. Incorporate saturated fat. If you've read this blog before you know I love organic pastured butter, coconut oil, tallow, raw whole milk, raw cheese and eggs.So what are we aiming for in adapting these habits? The main one in an increase in body temperature. This is a good indicator that your metabolism and thyroid are beginning to work properly. You should also notice your hands and feet warming up, a less frequent need to urinate, and a more beautiful yellow urine color.I've been doing this for the past 6 months without much thought.  l really wish I had monitored my temperature the way that Matt Stone recommends as I have shown low thyroid levels in the past. If you experience any of the above symptoms of over hydration I suggest giving this a try and reading "Eat for Heat". It's both offensive and revolutionary.
