The amazing benefits of walking barefoot!

I first heard about earthing from my Naturopathic Doctor in Santa Barbara about 2 years ago. I was dealing with adrenal fatigue and some other hormonal problems at the time so he suggested I get an earthing mat or spend an hour a day walking barefoot. I didn't buy one for a few reasons, mainly because he didn't explain any of the science behind it and I tend to be skeptical of theories associated with "energy" healing. Looking back I think the biggest part of curing adrenal fatigue is cutting out ALL caffeine including green tea (which he was recommending I drink).I rediscovered this concept when I actually read the book Earthing, and found that the science behind it is truly amazing.  It's another example of how perfectly our planet is designed to help us thrive.The Science:Disease of almost any kind stems from inflammation in the body. Inflammation is due to an excess of free-radicals. While a small amount of free-radicals are necessary for health, we generally have way too many. They come from stress, smoking, chemicals, pesticides, exercising too much, electromagnetic frequencies and more. Free-radicals are essentially unstable molecules. They are missing an electron and in an attempt to stabilize themselves, steal electrons from other molecules which starts a degeneration process in the body.Anti-oxidants are known to quench free radicals and stop the degeneration process, which reduces inflammation and disease. It's common knowledge that they can be found in red wine, berries, green tea, and fruits and veggies.But did you know that the earths surface maintains a negative electrical charge, continually offering electrons to quench the free radicals in your body? Essentially the ground is the most plentiful source of anti-oxidants. And they're free! Please don't misunderstand. I am not telling you to eat dirt.  Although I wouldn't be against that, it's not necessary.You're skin is the largest organ on your body and absorbs whatever it comes in contact with (this is why you should stay away from chemical filled soaps, lotions, and beauty products). And the biggest pores on the body are on the bottom of our feet. If you're familiar with essential oils, you probably already knew that. So simply by walking on the ground bare-footed we are absorbing tons of anti-oxidants.  In order to get the benefits of these electrons it's necessary to walk without shoes. Shoes are typically lined with rubber, or another non-conductive material on the souls.If you have ever seen an accupressure foot chart? Every section of the foot is related to the health of another body part. The entire body can gain healing just from our feet being on the ground!These electrons are not only available on dry land. If you can remember back to elementary science, or times of shocking yourself in an outlet, water is an excellent conductor of electricity. So swimming in the ocean or lakes is a great way to absorb free anti-oxidants.How does the earth maintain a negative charge if it's consistently giving away electrons you ask?  Lightning! It strikes the ground about 100 times per second, continually replenishing the earths negative charge. How amazing is that?A friends testimony: I have a friend named Rachel who lives in New Zealand. She recently told me that she has been getting horrible migraines a few times per week which is a completely new development. I gave her some remedies that I know relieve migraines, but I couldn't stop thinking of ways to prevent them. After reading the book, I sent her an e-mail explaining earthing and suggesting she try walking barefoot and her response follows:"Hey Heather! Thats so crazy because we have just moved to the beach where I am always faffing about barefoot and my migraines have been way better lately!!!! So cool!"She was experiencing the benefits  of earthing without knowing it.When I lived in southern California, I could walk barefoot whenever I wanted. But now that I'm in Cornwall, UK  it's not realistic to have my feet on the 20 degree ground. So I ordered an earthing mat to sleep on, set under my laptop, and put my feet on when I'm sitting. You can purchase earthing mats, sheets, and pillowcases online and plug them into a grounded socket which houses built after 1960 should have. Or place the rod into the earth and connect your sheet through the wire. I absolutely love my earthing mat. I sleep wonderfully when my feet are touching it. My dad also loves it as he has had 2 knee replacements and used to have a great deal of pain. Finally (after much hesitation) he tried my earthing mat for 20 minutes one day. The next morning he said "My knee hasn't felt this good in years" and immediately ordered 3 for himself, his parents and his co-worker.Have you tried Earthing? What are your experiences?
